Disaster Training

Today was a wild day! Up at 5:00AM to be in the city by 8:00AM, then into make-up for 45 minutes. We were part of an EMS Training Day. We were victims of a large b@mb going off at a rock concert. We each had a role to play. My role included a fractured arm and hysteria. I had no idea how fun this would be. OK, so I know that sounds kinda weird, but with these training exercises I think it helps the first responders to be more prepared. We were asked to be very realistic. I screamed, cried out, wouldn't stay put, for a good half hour each time. It made me think of what not to do if I am ever in that type of situation. Several times I wanted to apologize to the EMT's because I could tell that I was frustrating them a little with my hysteria. But I was told that in a real scenario, there are people that are that hysterical (and rightfully so). So then I felt a little better.

My hubby was one of the victims as well. Both of his legs were broken, with bones sticking out of the skin. And my friend, Dan, had a head injury and was drunk. My other friend, Polly, had glass embedded in her arm and her leg. Needless to say, the gals that did our make-up were phenomenal! It all looked a little too real (for my taste). It was a great day overall and I think we all learned so much!
